writing criteria

Hi,

As I wrote in my comment on the post about error correction, tomorrow we'll be looking at the nature of most common errors and how serious we consider them for the quality of writing.

Could you comment on what criteria should be applied when assessing writing?

See you tomorrow,
ralitza

Hi everyone,

Further to our talk about the writing criteria and whether we should continue with our discussions in class regarding common mistakes and ways for improving writings, I agree that we should be looking at the meaning of the post and if I can add its clarity for the reader, too.

So can I suggest as one of the criteria (singular criterion):

originality of the idea and clarity of meaning.

What else can we include?

Regards,
ralitza

Hi everyone,

Here is a possible list of writing criteria that can help us evaluate writing. Feel free to modify or add anything that you think is necessary.

• Original idea clearly stated

• Organisation, paragraphs, main ideas, supporting ideas/examples

• Linking words

• Range of Vocabulary

• Range of Grammar Tenses

• Spelling / Punctuation

Anything else we should add to the list?

You can comment on the good points of a piece of writing and then make any suggestions for the student on what /how to improve.

You can also quantitatively evaluate a writing using the scale from 1 (very poor) to 10 (excellent).

Use this space to make your comments.

Best regards,
ralitza
