How We Got the "Teddy Bear"
The teddy bear is a child's toy ,a nice soft stuffed animal suitable for cuddling.
It is,however,a toy with an interesting history behind it.
Theodore Roosevelt, or Teddy as he was commonly called , was preesident of theUnited States from 1901 to1909 .
He was an unusally active man with varied pastimes, oneof which was hunting.
One day the president was invited to take part in a bear hunt ; an inasmuch as Teddy was president , his host wanted to ensure that he caught a bear .
A bear was captured, clanked over the head to knock it out. and tied to a tree; however,Teddy, who really wanted to actually hunt, refused to shoot the bear and in fact demanded that the bear be extricated from the ropes; that is , he demanded that the bear set free.
The incident attracted a lot of attention among journalists .First a cartoon- drawn by
Clifford K.Berryman to make fun of this situation- appeard in the Washington Post , and the
cartoon was widely distributed and reprinted throughout the country.
Thentoy manufacturers began producing a toy bear wich they called a "TeddyBear"
The teddy became the most widely recognized symbol of Roosevelt's presidency.
I find it interesting thing to read about if u like to read more about Teddy Bear you can visit these wep pages

good afternoon all
Thanx fatina for the story this is the first time i know about the teddy bear story
Hi everyone,
And welcome Hend to our blog, it's good that you've already written your first post. Hope you'll regularly share your opinions with us.
Thanks Fatina for the post. It's an amusing story but I was wondering if you have a teddy bear or whether you used to have one when you were a child.
Are teddy bears popular toys in Iraq?
I think the story will be even more interesting if you relate it to a personal story of yours or to the toys that children in your country play with.
I, for example, never used to play with a teddy bear when I was a child. Teddy Bears became popular much later in Bulgaria.
It was much later after the age of 30 when a friend bought me a present from the Manchester Uni bookshop: a teddy bear with a ribbon with the university logo. It's my first teddy bear and my favourite. When I travel anywhere, I always pack it in my suitcase. It's often my travelling companion.
I love its calming presence in my life.
What's your teddy bear story?
Teddy Bear Hugs,
ralitza

Thanks for the post Fatina,
It was very interesting to read. I like what you said:
"About teddy bears in my county, for me , my brother, sister and my cousins we all had our teddy bears."
Actually, you've opened a topic that is very much related to the what we'll be discussing on Monday: THINGS WE CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT!
Can you post your ideas under the teddy bear thread: it's the perfect place for a discussion of this kind?
Enjoy the rest of your weekend,
ralitza
Things that we cant live with out
I think the most important thing is Air, water and Food with out these three things no one can survives.
We can live with not using phones and computers and all the technology but we cant live with out air, water and food.

Teacher can you ask the other students to tell as what kind of games they used to play when they where kids? I fell interested in knowing what games they play.
Have a nice day
Hi Fatina,
Actually, I was thinking of asking each student to start a thread and encourage other students to comment. I'll explain in class tomorrow.
In the meantime, why don't you ask them to tell you about the games they played when young.
The thread you started has got the most comments so far, that's really very good. Try to keep them interested in the topic for longer.
Post all your questions.
Warm regards,
ralitza

Thank you for your commend ,But I don’t like cants lol , about
Theodore Roosevelt the president of USA I will get for you more information

Fatina
Hi Free pharaoh
as u askd me for more information about (Theodore Roosevelt)?
Theodore Roosevelt
With the assassination of President McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, not quite 43, became the youngest President in the Nation's history. He brought new excitement and power to the Presidency, as he vigorously led Congress and the American public toward progressive reforms and a strong foreign policy.
He took the view that the President as a "steward of the people" should take whatever action necessary for the public good unless expressly forbidden by law or the Constitution." I did not usurp power," he wrote, "but I did greatly broaden the use of executive power."
Roosevelt's youth differed sharply from that of the log cabin Presidents. He was born in New York City in 1858 into a wealthy family, but he too struggled--against ill health--and in his triumph became an advocate of the strenuous life.
In 1884 his first wife, Alice Lee Roosevelt, and his mother died on the same day. Roosevelt spent much of the next two years on his ranch in the Badlands of Dakota Territory. There he mastered his sorrow as he lived in the saddle, driving cattle, hunting big game--he even captured an outlaw. On a visit to London, he married Edith Carow in December 1886.
During the Spanish-American War, Roosevelt was lieutenant colonel of the Rough Rider Regiment, which he led on a charge at the battle of San Juan. He was one of the most conspicuous heroes of the war.
Boss Tom Platt, needing a hero to draw attention away from scandals in New York State, accepted Roosevelt as the Republican candidate for Governor in 1898. Roosevelt won and served with distinction.
As President, Roosevelt held the ideal that the Government should be the great arbiter of the conflicting economic forces in the Nation, especially between capital and labor, guaranteeing justice to each and dispensing favors to none.
Roosevelt emerged spectacularly as a "trust buster" by forcing the dissolution of a great railroad combination in the Northwest. Other antitrust suits under the Sherman Act followed.
Roosevelt steered the United States more actively into world politics. He liked to quote a favorite proverb, "Speak softly and carry a big stick. . . . "
Aware of the strategic need for a shortcut between the Atlantic and Pacific, Roosevelt ensured the construction of the Panama Canal. His corollary to the Monroe Doctrine prevented the establishment of foreign bases in the Caribbean and arrogated the sole right of intervention in Latin America to the United States.
He won the Nobel Peace Prize for mediating the Russo-Japanese War, reached a Gentleman's Agreement on immigration with Japan, and sent the Great White Fleet on a goodwill tour of the world.
Some of Theodore Roosevelt's most effective achievements were in conservation. He added enormously to the national forests in the West, reserved lands for public use, and fostered great irrigation projects.
He crusaded endlessly on matters big and small, exciting audiences with his high-pitched voice, jutting jaw, and pounding fist. "The life of strenuous endeavor" was a must for those around him, as he romped with his five younger children and led ambassadors on hikes through Rock Creek Park in Washington, D.C.
Leaving the Presidency in 1909, Roosevelt went on an African safari, then jumped back into politics. In 1912 he ran for President on a Progressive ticket. To reporters he once remarked that he felt as fit as a bull moose, the name of his new party.
While campaigning in Milwaukee, he was shot in the chest by a fanatic. Roosevelt soon recovered, but his words at that time would have been applicable at the time of his death in 1919: "No man has had a happier life than I have led; a happier life in every way
