I would like to participate together about Arabic aphorism and compare it with foreign aphorism, and as you know in Arabic culture we have many of aphorism that it is famous and all Arab country use it, and there are local Arabic aphorism depends to the culture of people who live in same area.

Hi Walid,
I’ve always been interested in the world knowledge succinctly expressed in a proverb.
Last year I fell in love with a book written by an Egyptian writer Ahdaf Soueif. It is a beautiful book! Have you read any books by her?
Anyway, each chapter starts with either a proverb or a quotation from a poem or a book. I remember one in particular which says:
“May you enter favoured and leave beloved” (an ancient Egyptian prayer)
I’d like to ask the other students and you Walid if you have any favourite sayings in Arabic that you’d like to translate in English with a short explanation of how you understand it or what it means to you.
For example, my students have told me that “In the eyes of the mother, the monkey is …………..”
I can’t remember, does anybody?

thank you for your comment and i think your example will be better if we say :"the monky is gazelle with mother's eye".
this statement say when someone is ugly with people eye but his mother see him the most beautifull one in the world.
