2 new tasks

Hi everyone,

How is the weekend? Did you find time for blogging?

Here are two more questions to ponder (to think carefully about something before reaching a decision).

The first one is about error correction. How do you feel about it? Do you view error correction on your posts as important?

What did you think of the lesson on Wednesday when we looked at a student's post and discussed ways of improving it in terms of more appropriate vocabulary and correcting some grammar and punctuation errors? Do you think this error feedback on accuracy done in class is a good idea? What other ways can you suggest of dealing with language errors?

And the second task will require to read the comments made by other students and comment on them. I'd like you to comment on the main idea, not necessarily to look for mistakes. We can refer to some often recurring mistakes in class when we do remedial work. How do you feel about this?

Eager to read your comments,
ralitza

Error correction is very important to get the grammar & learn new word
& i think evre one should read his/her comment to explain his/her point( I think that is better)

Really, it is the first time for me to apply comments on our blogger.
I hope, all of us, to feel free in sharing ideas and comments.

I think that the error correction is very important because it helps us to know our recurring mistakes in writing. Also it helps in improving our English grammar and learns new expressions.

For our teacher Ralitza:
----------------------------
Please can you focus on the grammar (especially the verbs and tenses)as much as you can because I noticed that most of us have a mistakes in this issue

Best Regards
Omar Mahmoud.

Thanks Ahmed and Omar for your comments.

I'd like to elaborate on some points you've made.

I go along with your idea, Ahmed, that a student should read his/her comment and perhaps try to explain if there is any misunderstanding, while the other students could suggest ways of improving the text. Perhaps, when one reads aloud, one can easily notice when there is a loss or ambiguity of meaning( the meaning is not very clear), there are grammar/spelling/punctuation mistakes.

We can try it in class again today.

The other thing I wanted to mention is what Omar has already drawn our attention to and that is the importance of NOTICING. He wrote that he had noticed the grammar mistakes made in class and suggested we do more remedial work on grammar. That actually echoes the class vote in the survey: 66% for speaking and 34 for grammar.
We'll discuss the results of the survey again today but actually that's a good start: NOTICE!

See you later!

Hi again
i will be happy when i feel that my language is improving andi think error corrections will assesst and andevaluate our development in English.
andi would like to add suggestion that we co-operate to correct our mistake directly when we speak and write.

Thanks Walid and Free Pharaoh for your comments.

To summarise, you view error correction as a collaborative act in class, when we look at common and recurring errors. I agree with you, discussing the nature of the error together will perhaps help us to avoid making it the next time.

We'll look at some posts tomorrow and will do that. In the meantime, could you read all the comments made so far and notice some common mistakes?

In tomorrow's lesson, we'll be looking at the most recurring errors in the posts and how serious you consider them. Think of ways of grouping them.

What errors do you consider the most serious ones?

See you tomorrow,
ralitza
